There are so many talented musicians in Vancouver and we wanted to highlight as many of them as we can! We went to an underground Coffee Shop and chatted with Niki Kennedy.
1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
I call what I do “Nostalgia Pop,” I like to blur genre lines to create music that makes you feel good whether you’re in the mood to dance or cry.
2: One of your memories of being in the Vancouver music scene?
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the feeling of playing live last summer (outdoors) after the first round of shutdowns. It was incredible to share in that energy with everyone listening and I was overwhelmed with gratitude to have a real life audience again.
3: Who is one of your favourite local bands?
Ooh, tough question because there’s sooo much talent here!
But as far as bands go, I have to shout out Stickman for those that like alt-rock. I was fortunate to lend some background vocals to one of their tracks on their “three out of ten” record so listened to their work intimately and was super impressed. They play live all over the Lower Mainland so be sure to check ‘em out!
4: Whats coming up for you?
I’ve just started working on a new full-length project which I’m super excited about, along with playing regularly around the city and live-streaming online from my home studio! My recent singles https://ffm.to/thingsiwishisaid, Fall Back Into You, The Last Night (Dancing With You), and Get Back in the Groove are out there in the web world if anyone feels like giving them a listen.
5: Where can people find you? What are your social media links?
I’m in all the places and love to connect with people!
