There are so many talented musicians and we wanted to highlight as many of them as we can! Crack a cold one and listen to the riffage of Queens & Kings.
1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
We are a Toronto-based rock duo that sound like far more than two people, haha! Our sound is an interesting and unique blend between the two of us so we find it hard to describe in a way, but we have been described as garage punk, post-punk, riff rock, alt rock, indie rock and other similar genres. We have been compared to bands or artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kills, Queens of the Stone Age and PJ Harvey, to name a few.
2: One of your memories of being in the Vancouver music scene?
We are currently on tour and played our first show in Vancouver together for this project last Sunday Nov. 6). It was at LanalLou's with the lovely and wonderful Edmonton-based artist 0Stella and her crew who we were on a co-headlining tour with and we were joined by Strange Breed who were just phenomenal! It was a great bill and an excellent way to end our co-headlining tour, although our band has one more show in Vancouver this Wednesday Nov. 9th at The Roxy. Brendan lived in Vancouver for about 7 years but moved back to Toronto about 14 years ago, so he has a lot of fond past memories of playing here with other projects as well.
3: Who is one of your favourite local bands?
We have become fans of Strange Breed after our show with them last Sunday and hope to repeat that line up at some point! Definitely a local fave! We also are playing with Showmance at The Roxy on Wednesday who are also fantastic! We were invited by a friend from Toronto local band Blackout Orchesta to be part of a bill with them at The Horseshoe in Toronto last September and we suggested that night that we play again together in Vancouver, so we are excited that we are making that happen and looking forward to the show on Wednesday!
4: Whats coming up for you?
Coming up, we have a show at The Roxy on Wednesday (Nov. 9) which will be the last show of our west coast tour before we head home to Toronto. It will be with Showmance, Autonomous Apes and selfcare and is presented by Live Acts Canada. It is a killer bill and we are excited to play it!
We also have our album release coming up early next year and couldn't be more excited to share it! 4 singles from the album have already been released, each with official music videos and the other 4 will be out soon! We have had a music video ready for over year for our song "Earthquake" that we can't wait to release (although I, Alissa, am normally the drummer for the band, Brendan plays both guitar and drums at the same time on that one!).
