The Best In Vancouver competition is back this year, bigger than ever! We met with 29 East at an Underground Sushi Bar and picked their brains about the competition.
1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
Our sound is a mixture of alternative rock, funk, hip-hop and R&B, with a little dash of whatever we’re feeling like at the moment! We all have different favourite genres and influences and I think they all shine through and blend into a fresh and innovative sound.
2: How do you stand out from the other bands in this competition?
A big distinguishing factor for us is our 3 lead singers. We don’t like to operate as having one person leading the band, rather as having the moment of leadership oscillate around the stage. This is ubiquitous in all aspects of what we do, whether it be vocals, instrumentation, or even the daily aspects of operating our business! We’re also dedicated to bringing a consistent experience to our fans whether that be on social media, in our music videos or just at the show!
3: Who is one of your favorite local bands?
Oh god, how do you pick one? We are huge fans of so many artists in the city! Noodle Boys, Uncle Strut, Hydrotaxi, Jaron Chidiac, Magpies, Boy Cried Mel, Ludic, I’m certain I'm forgetting a million people but we’re in such a talented city!
4: Where can people find you? What are your social media links?
We are on all the stuff! You can visit our linktree (https://linktr.ee/29east) to access all of our socials or you can just check out our website (https://29east.ca) for more fun information!
5: If you win, which prize are you most excited about?
The Session at The Beatlab Studio is quite an exciting prospect as it would be an entirely new studio for us to delve into. They’re all terrific though and we would feel so honored to be awarded anything at all. The #1 prize for us as always is just being given the opportunity to share our craft with a new audience!
