The Best In Vancouver competition is back this year, bigger than ever! We met up with Avery Sloane at a vintage store, we chatted with her about the competition.
1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
Our sound has kind of morphed through the years from melancholy indie rock to more of an upbeat garage feel. When the E.P. “Future Pilot” was released, I was recording and playing alone which led to a pretty moody sound. After being joined by my lovely band, we started playing songs in a way that would amp the crowd up a bit more! To put it into genres…indie rock/alternative.
2: How do you stand out from the other bands in this competition?
I like to think we’re in the same boat as everyone else, loving what we do and trying to create something out of passion. We’re a group of 21-year-olds who have no idea what we’re doing with life but have some sort of a handle on music. We’re also all roughly the same height.
3: Who is one of your favorite local bands?
One of our favourite local bands is Nonarchy. They remind me of a dreamy, bubblegum, Beach Bunny-ish, indie rock party that makes you feel like you’re gonna win prom queen. Plus, they’re all very very nice people!
4: Where can people find you? What are your social media links?
You can find me on Instagram @averysloane_ or on any streaming platforms
5: If you win, which prize are you most excited about?
I think that if we win we’d be most stoked on the recording opportunities…we have an EP in the works but there’s so much more we’re sitting on that we’re itching to get out. Being able to record together in a studio setting totally changes the dynamic of the songs and adds an energy that you just can’t capture on your own.
