Bullys in New West has been a godsend for the music scene in Vancouver. Putting on show after show with new and upcoming bands as well as sold-out bangers. They put on a two day Canada Day bash and it was filled with awesome bands! We had a sit down with Kites On Mars about their performance and their thoughts around the scene. 1) What sound can people expect to hear when they walk into your performance? The familiar feel of 90s alt rock, but with an emo twist, and a varied setlist that calls upon and throws back to sounds from a wide variety of artists that usually don’t usually play into the traditional alt rock or emo genre. We mix in influence from a variety of artists outside of alt rock and emo such as: RHCP, The Police, Pink Floyd, Neil Young, Ghost, Radiohead and Oasis, 00’s metalcore, Deftones, and John Mayer to name a few.
2) What is one of your favorite memories at Bullys? Our band actually had our very first jam at Bullys, and it was successful enough to rent a monthly room at the front/diamond dicks, and we’ve been in that building for 5+ years. The Bully’s festival was also quite fun! Happy to have been a part of it!
3) What's one thing you wish you could tell a new fan listening to your music for the first time? Check us out live. Our first and so far only release barely touches on the surface of the wide variety of influences we’ve packed into our generally alt rock/emo sound. Out of the 10 originals we play, only 3 have been released, and the other 7 individually show different sides and flavours of the band.
4) Where can people find you? Social media links?
We have a link for that! https://linktr.ee/kitesonmars?utm_source=linktree_profile_share<sid=cff21945-3801-4761-a756-0a2c40773881
