Canadian Music Week is coming up and we had a chance to chat with some of the bands! We sent a messenger raven to Black Creek Reign about what they think about CMW. 1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
Hey everyone, we’re Black Creek Reign! We’re a Reggae/Funk band from Toronto. Reggae can be a bit of a weird genre to classify, but if we had to guess, we’d probably say it’s almost like a “New Age” Reggae. Still very much Island sounding and authentic, but also infused with a lot of pop compositional and stylistic elements. Our most popular streaming single “Run Away” does a good job of illustrating exactly what we mean.
2: What is your favourite part of Canadian Music Week?
This is actually our 1st time being included in the list of performers! However, we’ve heard nothing but good things about the sense of community and camaraderie that’s developed through the week long festivities. There’s a lot of great musical things happening in the city, and even the country, so to get a lot of it in one place all weekend must be one heck of an experience. Although, I imagine meeting new fans, friends, and bands must be among the best part of CMW too…along with watching some killer performances of course!
3: Who is one of your favourite local bands?
Right now, one of our favourite local bands is “The Imagine If”. They’re a blues, rock, soul 5-piece band also out of Toronto. If you’re a fan of the Tedeshi-Trucks band then you’ll be a fan of this group for sure. They’re very experienced musicians, and put on one heck of a show. We were incredibly grateful they’ve asked us to be a part of several shows recently with them, but it’s been a joy to watch and learn from them when they’re tearing it up on the stage.
4: Whats coming up for you?
Quite a bit! We’ll be releasing a 5 song EP this year, as well as several collaborative singles with other amazing local artists. We aim to continue to gig as often as we can, write dozens more songs, and hope to fill our calendar with festivals and showcases to continue to spread the word about Reggae music and Black Creek Reign. Hopefully, we can release a few well produced music videos as well….hopefully those grant applications are successful!
5: Where can people find you? What are your social media links?
You can find us on just about anything, but to really help us out, give us a follow on Instagram and Spotify.
