Vancouver Metal has always thrived, no matter what. No matter how many venues we lose. Journeyman Productions have Vancouver's Premiere Metal Festivals. Get excited to see some fantastic bands on April 13th, 14th and 15th.
One of the amazing bands to grace the upcoming festival is Hyloxalus. We sharpened our battle axes as we spoke with the band about their upcoming show.
1: Describe your sound for those who haven’t heard you?
Power metal w/operatic vocals, mix between old Stratovarius, Blind Guardian and Nightwish.
2: What separates you from other metal bands?
Big element of our sound is this very 90s power metal synth pad vibe as opposed to virtual orchestra which a lot of modern bands use. The drums as well, much more rooted in 70s prog drums and 80s stadium rock than modern metal(our drummer Danial is a massive Rush nerd).
3: Who is one of your favourite local bands?
We're from Edmonton, so with Edmonton bands I would say Eye of Horus and Valyria.
4: Whats a memorable tale from one of your shows?
Our click track blaring in front of house during one song at Armstrong Metalfest.
